Despite the difficulties caused by the covid-19, Peruvian textile exports in 2021 have exceeded the figures of 2019, the period prior to the pandemic.
We keep growing! The exports of the Peruvian textile industry continue to recover progressively and have registered surprising growth between January and August 2021. This means more than USD 722 million in foreign business, which far exceeds the 2019 figures, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
And there is even better news. It is projected that, by the end of the year, the barrier of USD 1.5 billion will be surpassed. Impressive! This would meet the goal of reaching USD 2 billion by 2024.
Like various sectors of commerce, the textile industry was hit by the pandemic during 2020 and part of 2021. In losses, this was equivalent to approximately 20% of its manufacturing strength between April and December 2020. According to official figures of the Association of Exporters (ADEX) this year, from January to August, Peruvian exports in total have exceeded USD 34,197 million, which is equivalent to an increase of 45.1% compared to the same period of 2020.
Peruvian textile industry has been performing several activities and events and Peru and worldwide, virtual and face-to-face, with the purpose to continue promoting its trade and internationalization. Events such as Perú Moda, Perú Moda Deco, Alpaca Fiesta and more continue to carry out important negotiations for the active recovery of the sector.
